Sculpting Echo's Owl Familiar
Echo's got a large owl as a familiar, so I decided that, hey, the Theurge sculpt has <what started off as a baby face and is now> Chromatic Orb in one hand, but his other is super boring in comparison-- let's add his friend! There are no plastic 23mm scale owl figures I could find, so I used some basic Sculpey clay (from the magical land of Wally World again) to make him an owl. If you make minis seriously, I do not recommend this stuff because it is a little too sticky and soft...not really sturdy enough to hold details. But, for 97¢, it was right on budget for this experiment. I still need to paint him, but I'm not going to attach him to Echo's mini because the Sculpey is way too fragile to survive transport and gameplay. I think I'll attach him after the campaign is over and Echo's fig is retired.

Painting Echo - Theurge Sculpt Reaper Bones
I used cheap-o acrylics, "Multi-Surface" by FolkArt, from Walmart. Def not professional, but it's my first DnD mini and I'm super casual--- we're just a bunch of nerds who make dinner, drink gin 'n' Dr. Pepper, and play DnD until our old-asses get tired at 1am. We don't even use minis all that often except to map combat, but there wasn't one in the current commie box I liked, so I set out to find one of my own. It was ridiculously difficult finding a young, slim, beardless male figure! Most male minis are super jacked or have a beard to their navel. That's cool, but Echo is 19, tall, lithe, and a pretty boy. I am SO glad I found the Theurge figure by Reaper. It's the closest sculpt to matching my character, but still reads a little too mature. I fixed it a bit by shaving off the sideburns with an Xacto knife. I highly recommend these plastic figures! They take the paints like a champ....and with no primer!

Echo - My Necromancer Miniature
I searched all over the internet for a miniature to suit my current DnD character. There aren't many young, slim, beardless men figurines, even amongst the elven races. They are either super jacked up and muscular or have a prodigious beard. :\
However! I found the Theurge miniature from Reaper (their Bones plastic line) and I freakin' LOVE this sculpt! This is my first DnD miniature paint job, so it doesn't really do the sculpt justice. I used cheap paints and brushes from Walmart, but I am very pleased with the results! I was even able to use an Xacto knife to shave off the sideburns for a more youthful appearance (Echo is 19 in-game) and cut town the magical "wands" tucked in the book, turning them into a giant feather quill instead.

1912 Periwinkle Dress with Necklace
Crossover front with short sleeves. Based on the wonderful Butterick 6093 pattern. Dress is made of cotton voile. I created the matching faux-wrap necklace from crystal, lampwork, and catseye glass beads.
